Flow Sensors
FCI’s proprietary thermal dispersion technology
permits highly reliable detection of flow in the
harshest aerospace and military applications with a
no moving part flow element and electronics. With
reported Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) in excess
of over 60,000 hours, FCI’s Flow Switches are
specified for the detection of flow in air,
hydraulic and gearbox oil, coolants, potable and
wastewater applications, fuel, and other fluids.

The
typical flow element is installed with a flanged or
threaded process connection into the pipe or duct,
while the electronics are integrally or remotely
mounted to the element. The hermetically or
environmentally sealed housing for the electronics
is equipped with an electrical connector or flying
lead for connection with the customer’s system or
data buss. The electronics include a set point that
is an open collector, switch contacts or a digital
output that reliably indicates that the flow rate is
above or below the set point value in the flow
stream. An optional set point is available to
indicate flow at a different rate or it may be
specified as a temperature set point to provide a
separate temperature switch function. FCI can
provide Built in Test (BIT) or other type of health
monitoring options on the output. FCI’s technical
staff can describe existing designs that meet many
requirements, and they can provide recommendations
for modified designs for application specific
requirements. FCI provides sensors for temperature
service to 800° F (427° C) and pressures to 5000
psig [345 bar(g)].
All FCI Flow Switches are preset by FCI technicians
in a wide variety of process fluids at FCI’s NIST
traceable calibration laboratory. This assures
reliable and accurate performance of the flow switch
in the actual installation on the customer’s
aircraft or vehicle.
Typical applications include flow sensing of air in
Environmental Cooling Systems; oil in hydraulic,
lubricating and gearbox systems; fluids in coolant
and heating systems; fuel in engine and transfer
pump applications and water in potable and gray
water systems. Please review specific applications
in the Applications Section of our Web Page.
